Terms of Service

By accessing or using Civilian ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

Civilian is a civic intelligence platform that provides news analysis, policy tracking, representative information, campaign finance data, and personalized impact analysis. The Service is available via web and mobile applications.

You must create an account to use certain features. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities under your account. You must provide accurate information and be at least 13 years old to create an account.

Free tier: Basic access to news, policies, and representative information.

Civilian Pro: Paid subscription providing personalized impact analysis, vote alignment scores, and premium features.

Subscriptions are billed monthly or annually. Payments are processed by Stripe (web) or through Apple App Store / Google Play Store (mobile). Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

Refund requests are handled according to Apple, Google, or Stripe refund policies depending on the purchase platform.

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
• Scrape, crawl, or automatically extract data from the Service
• Interfere with the operation of the Service
• Impersonate any person or entity
• Resell or redistribute content from the Service without permission

The Service, including its design, features, and content created by Civilian, is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. News articles, public records, and government data displayed on the platform remain the property of their respective sources.

Thumbnails and previews shown alongside news stories are sourced from each publisher's own public feed (RSS media:thumbnail / media:content, or og:image) and are displayed with attribution and a link to the original article. We do not host or copy these images; they are loaded directly from the publisher.

If you are a rights holder and believe an image, headline, or any other content displayed in Civilian infringes your rights, contact us at legal@civilianos.com with the URL or story in question and a brief description of the concern. We aim to review and act on valid requests promptly (typically within 24 hours of receipt during business days). You may also request that we permanently exclude images from a specific domain.

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Civilian does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information displayed. Policy impact analysis is generated using AI and should not be considered legal, financial, or tax advice.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Civilian shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms. You may delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

We may modify these terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles.
